This policy explains what personal data Nous collects on nouscast.com, what we use it for, who we share it with, and how you can access, correct or delete it. We wrote it in plain English rather than legalese, because a policy nobody understands protects nobody.
Who is responsible for your data
Nous (NousCast) is a study project on classical literature, philosophy, theology, history and art. We publish on YouTube and Instagram, run a study club, and sell courses and materials.
Nous is the data controller for the data described here. Our operations are based in Brazil and governed by the Brazilian General Data Protection Law (LGPD, Law 13.709/2018). You can reach us about any privacy matter at the address at the end of this page.
What data we collect
We collect only what is needed to deliver what you asked for. We never buy contact lists, and we never collect data about third parties who have not given it themselves.
- Data you give us. Name, email and, when you choose to provide it, phone number. This happens when you subscribe to the newsletter, download a resource, fill in a form, or contact us.
- Purchase data. When you buy a course or a product, the payment platform passes us your name, email, phone, tax ID and order details. We never receive or store your card details: those stay entirely with the payment platform.
- Browsing data. Pages visited, time on page, traffic source, device and browser type, approximate IP address. These are collected by the analytics tools described below.
- Public interactions. Comments and messages you send on our YouTube and Instagram pages are governed by those platforms' rules, not by this policy.
What we use it for
Each piece of data has a stated purpose and a corresponding legal basis:
- Sending the content you asked for (newsletter, letters, free resources). Legal basis: your consent, which you may withdraw at any time.
- Delivering and supporting what you bought (course access, student area, session reminders). Legal basis: performance of a contract.
- Telling existing students and subscribers about new courses and offers. Legal basis: legitimate interest, always with an unsubscribe link in every message.
- Understanding how the site is used in order to improve it. Legal basis: legitimate interest, using aggregated data that does not identify you individually.
- Meeting legal and tax obligations related to sales. Legal basis: legal obligation.
Who we share it with
We do not sell your data. We do not hand it to third parties for their own advertising. We share it only with the service providers needed to run the site, each processing data on our instructions and for the stated purpose:
- Brevo (Sendinblue), to host the mailing list and send emails.
- Kiwify, to process payments and grant access to purchased products.
- Google (Analytics and YouTube), to measure site audience and display embedded videos.
- Microsoft Clarity, to understand how pages are used.
- Meta (Facebook and Instagram), on some pages, to measure advertising effectiveness.
- HostGator, which hosts the site and the database.
Cookies and analytics
The site uses Google Analytics 4 and Microsoft Clarity on nearly every page, and the Meta pixel on some of them. These tools store cookies in your browser and show us aggregate numbers: how many people read a piece, where they came from, where they stopped reading.
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, and you can install the Google Analytics opt-out extension. The site works normally without them; we simply lose the measurement.
YouTube videos embedded in articles use the no-cookie mode and only load after you click to play. Before that, YouTube receives nothing about your visit.
How long we keep it
Newsletter data stays with us for as long as the subscription lasts, and is deleted when you unsubscribe or ask for deletion.
Purchase data is kept for the period required by Brazilian tax and civil law, even if you ask us to delete everything else. That is a legal obligation, not a choice of ours.
Browsing data follows each analytics tool's own retention period, typically a few months.
Your rights
At any time, free of charge, you have the right to:
- confirm whether we process your data, and access it;
- correct incomplete, inaccurate or outdated data;
- request anonymisation, blocking or deletion of unnecessary or unlawfully processed data;
- request portability of your data to another provider;
- withdraw consent and ask for deletion of data processed on that basis;
- know which public and private entities we share your data with;
- object to processing carried out on the basis of legitimate interest.
How to exercise these rights
Write to the address at the end of this page, from the same email you registered with. We reply within 15 days.
To leave the mailing list, the fastest route is the Unsubscribe link at the bottom of any message we send: it takes effect immediately and does not depend on us.
Security
The site is served over HTTPS, and database access is restricted by credentials and by origin address. The providers listed above maintain their own security controls.
No system is impenetrable, and it would be dishonest to promise otherwise. If an incident occurs that poses a significant risk to you, we will notify you and the Brazilian data protection authority, as the law requires.
Children
Nous content is aimed at adults. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18. If you are a parent or guardian and have found a registration made without your consent, write to us and we will delete the record.
Changes to this policy
When this policy changes, the update date at the top of the page changes with it. Significant changes to how we use your data are announced by email to registered users before they take effect.
