The idea

The philosophy the ancients practiced, not merely read

Seneca, Epictetus and Marcus Aurelius did not write to be studied. They wrote to be lived: one exercise at a time, one day at a time.

Paideia recovers that original use. It is an individual path of eight weeks per level, in which you train, with weekly guidance, to distinguish what depends on you, to act with character in your concrete roles, and to examine your own judgments before they carry you away.

All of it read through the lens that sets Nous apart: the Stoics in dialogue with the great tradition of the West.

And designed for those who have already started and stopped. That is why the daily practice fits into 15 minutes, the pace has room to breathe, and every week, someone is waiting for you.

The path

Three disciplines, three levels

The order is Epictetus's own, and it is not decorative: each level uses the previous one as a tool.

Level 1 · Desire

PATHOS: what you feel

Master the passions and stop suffering over what does not depend on you. The dichotomy of control, the reserve clause, training in privation, the nightly examination.

8 one on one sessions

Level 2 · Action

ETHOS: what you do

Form your character in the concrete roles of your life: the four virtues as a compass, difficult people as training material, the well measured word.

8 one on one sessions

Level 3 · Assent

LOGOS: what you think

Examine your impressions before you sign off on them: the sovereign pause, the view from above, the pure present, the inner citadel.

8 one on one sessions

One level at a time, always starting with Pathos. Whoever completes Logos writes, together with the mentors, their own Rule of Life: the document that consolidates the entire path.

How it works

A week inside Paideia

Session

60 minutes, live, one on one

Once a week, on Google Meet. No audience, no recording: the session only exists because you are in it.

Material

Exclusive Nous material

Every week arrives with an exclusive workbook, produced by Nous and personalized for your path: the examples come from your own life, not from a generic audience.

Practice

15 minutes a day

A daily exercise, Monday through Saturday, at a fixed time you choose. The practice is the product; everything else supports it.

Review

Guided weekly review

On Sunday, a short written review closes the week and feeds into the next session. Nothing is lost from one week to the next.

Week zero

Preparation before you begin

Between acceptance and your first session, you receive the welcome kit and set up the daily habit. You arrive at session 1 with the ground already prepared.

Pace

8 weeks, with room to breathe

Each level is designed for 8 weeks. If life gets in the way, it extends for a few more weeks at no additional cost. No one skips practice to meet a calendar.

To be clear

What Paideia is not

  • It is not a recorded course. There are no lessons to watch later. There are live sessions and a path that moves at your own pace.
  • It is not a book club. The ancient texts serve your life, not the other way around.
  • It is not psychotherapy, nor a substitute for it. It is philosophical mentorship. In acute distress, the right place is a health professional, and we will be the first to say so.
  • It is not for everyone. Entry is by application because real one on one guidance does not scale. Few people at a time, so that each one is truly accompanied.

Who leads

Three mentors, one integral formation

Paideia, in Greek, means the formation of the whole person. That is why the path has three voices: soul, mind and body. The weekly session is always one on one, and who is on the other side varies with the week: Rodrigo leads the philosophical heart of the path; John steps in when the subject is method and review; Luana, when body and habit come into training.

Rodrigo Bitencourt

Prof. Dr. Rodrigo Bitencourt

Soul · doctrine

Doctor of Philosophy, educated in Rome, chair of Logic and Philosophy of Knowledge, director of the Kairós Center for Therapeutic Philosophy, with a Master's in Science and Faith. He reads Epictetus in Greek and Seneca in Latin: you study with someone who drinks from the source, not the summary.

John Wanzer

John Wanzer

Mind · method

Graduate degree in Thomistic Philosophy and currently pursuing graduate studies in Neuroscience, with 25 years in project management. He is the guardian of the method: the design of the weeks, the reviews and the pace that turns reading into practice.

Luana Paiani

Luana Paiani

Body · habit

Nutritionist, specialist in metabolism and behavior. She takes care of the body's dimension on the path: building the daily habit and exercises in voluntary discomfort with a safe protocol.

The lens

The rule of the bee

In the fourth century, Saint Basil the Great wrote a letter to young men studying the pagan authors. His advice is Paideia's method:

Imitate the bee: she does not land on every flower, and of those she visits, she does not try to carry off everything; she takes what serves her work and leaves the rest. Saint Basil the Great · To Young Men, on the Right Use of Greek Literature (paraphrase)

The Stoics are read with seriousness and with the freedom of one who knows the whole tradition. Paideia does not ask for religious adherence: it asks for openness to a dialogue that has already lasted seventeen centuries.

Honest questions

Before you apply

Is this therapy?
No. Paideia is philosophical mentorship: a training in the examined life, with exercises and guidance. It is not psychotherapy, nor a substitute for it. If we sense that your moment calls for a health professional, we will say so plainly, before any payment.
How much time does this require of me?
About 15 minutes of written exercise a day, Monday through Saturday, plus the weekly 60 minute session and a short review on Sunday. If you do not have that space today, the form asks about it, and it is best to answer honestly.
How much does it cost?
The investment is per level, in euros (Paideia operates in three languages, across more than one country), and is communicated in the reply to your application, before any commitment. Each level has its own value, matched to the depth of the work, and you decide level by level: no package, no automatic renewal, no lock in contract.
Can I start directly with Ethos or Logos?
No. The path is cumulative: Ethos uses the tools from Pathos, and Logos uses the tools from both. Starting in the middle would mean selling a rung without the ladder.
What if I cannot finish in 8 weeks?
The level extends for a few more weeks, at no additional cost. The house rule is simple: no one skips practice to meet a calendar, because the practice is the product.
Are the sessions recorded?
No. The sessions are live and yours alone. What remains is better than a recording: the week's workbook, your own notes, and the written review.
